America’s Got Talent – What you missed at the Spectacular San Diego Audition.

Wow! That’s the best word to describe the auditions for the next season of America’s Got Talent here in San Diego. The auditions took place on January 12, 2016 and wow was there a turnout of incredibly talented (and perhaps a few people that may think they are more talented than they really are)! We’re excited about what we saw here this week at the San Diego Open Call auditions at the San Diego Convention Center. Were you hear? We want to hear about your experiences too!

So, here’s what’s happened. The initial talent auditions bring in hundreds of people. At San Diego, about 200 people registered to tryout. In Round One, the selected performers and acts that made it through these auditions will get their chance to go up in front of the four judge celebrity panel. The bottom line – these are essential to get right.

It Didn’t Just Start on the 12th!

If you showed up early on the 12th, you were late. The fact is, there were people lining up for the event the day before. America’s Got Talent saw a large turnout of people at the event and most of them had plenty to offer the judges. So, let’s take a closer look at what we saw as we roomed the San Diego Convention Center trying to get a look at this season’s true talent.

One of the key things we saw right off the bat was that these are not your everyday performer that is looking for a chance to get on stage. Some of the talent we saw was truly incredible and they were professionals. For example, one of the first acts to go in, Felix the Fire Cat, a juggler that – get this – juggles fire torches – was incredible. In fact, he mentioned that he had spent the last six years prepping for this event.

As the day got started, each of the 200 people who registered were taken around back to gather in a group shot. We saw a lot of performers of every different type present. There were dogs, there were comedians, and there were singers. In some cases, we are not sure what to label those acts!

As we waiting and watched as the photographers were capturing virtually every shot possible, it was clear this first 200 people would not be the only ones welcomed into the auditions. The production manager believed hundreds more would likely arrive later in the day and boy did they ever. Across the lawn, you could see a variety of groups and individuals performing, practicing, and, not in the least, sweating it out.

All sorts of acts took their turn moving into the auditorium, where cameras and reporters were not allowed. The screening process, once people registered, was surprisingly fast. Groups moved in and left, many wondering their fate while others looked pretty confident about their performances and chances.

Most of those in attendance arrived, signed up and registered to audition. However, some of the individuals were actually invited by the show’s producers, reports indicate. Some people were given special passes that allowed them to avoid having to wait to sign up, presumably because the producers contacted them after seeing their performances on social media or in person.

A Bit About the Show

America’s Got Talent is moving into its eleventh year. The show, which generally comes on during the summer months, offers a break fill-in for other programming across the board. It’s full of talented people trying to prove themselves as the very best talent out there. And, if past performances are anything to be thought of as a measuring board for the upcoming season, we’re confident San Diego will shine through.

The same day as the San Diego auditions, America’s Got Talent released small bits of information about this upcoming season. The details provided were not many but it was noted that Nick Cannon, long time host of the show, would be back this year. Also returning this season will be Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Mel B. As many show lovers already know, Howard Stern, another judge, is set to leave the stage this season. However, we also learned that, long time executive producer of America’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell, would be returning to a judging position to replace Stern.

The day was filled with excitement with numerous people moving through crying, others griming from year to year, and plenty of people overwhelmed with the experience. Though this stage does not allow audience members to interact with show judges, the excitement of just meeting some of the producers and getting into the auditions was plenty of fun for many people here. The next auditions for America’s Got Talent will take place in Dallas, Orlanda and Atlanta.
